Lions, tigers and bears - oh please. For the cowardly, these furry forest critters may invoke fear. This is not the case for two of LSUS' history professors. Cheryl White, Ph.D. and Gary Joiner, Ph.D. have joined with History Press, out of Charleston, SC, to write Haunted Shreveport, the first book in a series of three, about the darker side of the history of Shreveport.

Paranormal activity has recently become an interesting and intriguing topic in America's pop culture. The Discovery Channel sent their paranormal activity crew to Louisiana for research during the book's investigations.

Besides attracting The Discovery Channel with their investigation, White and Joiner spent time with the Louisiana Spirits Paranormal Investigators while hunting some of the "haunted" spots in the Shreveport-Bossier City area in order to put them on paper so that the community may read, learn and visit these locations.

The main course of action in writing the book was to scout out the locations.

"We had several locations we knew we wanted to investigate," said White. Several hints that White made towards the book were Shreveport's Municipal Auditorium, Logan Mansion and the Forbing Ghost. Although she didn't want to give too much information away before the book's release, White wanted to make note that it wasn't just about paranormal activity.

"I want people to know this is not a book about the ghosts, rather a book about the history of Shreveport with the ghost stuff woven in and overlaying," said White. As far as other topics and locations to be included in the book we can only guess. Possible locations include the old Ellerbe Road School, the Caddo Detention Center and the old Caddo Correctional Center. Several websites, including www.hauntla.com, dedicated to the haunting of Shreveport have all three of the locations listed as having "high levels" of activity and generating the greatest level of interest.

Haunted Shreveport will be on shelves in several local outlets on Halloween. White said a signing at one of the locations discussed in the book is in the works, but nothing has been finalized as of yet. The book will be followed by Lost Shreveport and Wicked Shreveport.
