With so many on-campus activities, it can be hard for students to learn of the talent found in the Shreveport-Bossier City area. In order to inform students of some of the area's talent on campus, The Almagest recently caught up with Audra Moss, president of the drama club and theater enthusiast.

A graduating senior pursuing a double-major in French and Criminal Justice, Moss plans to take a year off before heading to New York to attend an acting conservatory.

"When I was four years old my parents enrolled me in ballet lessons," said Moss. "I had my first dance recital and fell in love with the stage at that moment."

After being cast as one of Cinderella's ugly stepsisters at a young age, Moss realized that she was "addicted for life." She pursued a conventional career by attending college, and the actress caught wind of auditions for Rose in LSUS' Black Box Theatre's spring 2008 production The Woolgatherer.

Now, the actress is enthusiastic about the drama club and encourages student involvement.

"Our club strives to include everyone," said Moss. "We do have actors, but we also welcome writers, singers, dancers, set builders, costume and set designers, directors, light and sound operators and anyone else who has an interest in theater."

Moss feels that theater greatly contributes to the culture of the school.

"I think college is a time of self-discovery; opening yourself up to self expression and different ways of thinking. That's what theater is about, too. Any place that encourages the arts also encourages free thinking and humanist ideals, which is how it should be. I am so thankful that LSUS embraces those ideals," she said.

The drama club meets once a month during Common Hour and encourages all students to participate. The only requirement is an interest in theater.

To be added to the theater mailing list or to get involved in productions, contact Mary Jarzabek, instructor of communications, or Robert Alford, assistant professor of communications.
