The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is a huge organization across the globe that includes high school, collegiate and even professional athletic teams. LSUS recently started up its own chapter of FCA that meets every Monday at 9 p.m. in The Port inside the University Center. The organization's goal is to encourage student-athletes to set good examples and live through Christ on and off the field.
"The turnout for the first meeting was really good, and it grew for the second one which is really exciting," said sophomore group leader Lindsay Bomba.
The meetings consist of competitive games and scripture, which are usually led by one of the students. It's important to the FCA that members talk and learn with each other rather than an outside figure coming in to preach.
"I get nervous when sharing but I know that there are no right or wrong answers to scripture," said freshman group leader Tarah Arrington. "With the leaders sharing it's easier for the athletes to relate to each other. We're all teammates or classmates and are going through a lot of the same things."
After scripture everyone breaks into small groups to discuss their personal feelings about the evening's scripture.
"FCA is not only a great place to get closer to God, but [FCA is] also a really good environment to meet people you may not know. It's been really cool connecting to everyone on a different level than we're used to," junior group leader Ben Suit said.
The FCA is open to every athlete and student on campus.
