The "Louisiana Swamp Stomp" album is a compilation of Louisiana blues and blues-based music featuring songs written and performed by local Louisiana artists. The album is funded for and released by Honeybee Entertainment with all proceeds going to the Northern Louisiana Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Foundation.

Some of the artists participating in the project are Percy Sledge, the Bluebirds, Buckwheat Zydeco and Omar Coleman.

The newly established charity is dedicated to helping raise public awareness of brain and spinal cord injury along with funding neuroscience research in Louisiana, as the majority of people who suffer from neurological injuries receive treatment in Shreveport.

Louisiana is significantly deficient in neurological research due to the fact that there is a severe lack in funding for the research, according to claims made by the Foundation.

Paul McCarthy, Ph.D., who has organized the project, said that local artist Buddy Flett served as the stimulation for this project. Flett served as a mentor for local recording sensation Kenny Wayne Sheppard.

"Buddy was the inspiration for this project. At his age, people were afraid he wasn't going to pull through this, but he's back to playing music," McCarthy said. "We just cut the last track [for the album] with Buddy."

Flett suffered from Encephalitis, a disease which causes an acute swelling of the brain, and he was treated at LSU Health Sciences-Shreveport.

After months of intensive rehabilitation, Flett returned to playing music and inspired the charity to bring Louisiana's blues musicians together for a good cause and to help raise awareness.

McCarthy plans on speaking on behalf of neurological research in hopes of trying to promote public knowledge.

"Aside for publicly speaking, the artists involved with this album are going to do a tour and do the best we can to raise awareness."

The album is tentatively scheduled for release this summer and will coincide with a regional tour featuring several artists involved with the project.

"We hope the album will get some airplay and get some recognition for the foundation and cause," said McCarthy.
