After ten successful years with the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC), LSUS will be joining 14 other schools in the Red River Athletic Conference. Men's basketball and baseball and women's soccer have all brought home one or more regular season and conference tournament championships, establishing LSUS as an athletic force to be reckoned with.

With the success of both the men's baseball and women's soccer programs, LSUS had no choice but to switch conferences. Schools in the GCAC have no remaining soccer programs, and only Tougaloo has a baseball team. Former opponents University of Mobile, Belhaven, Spring Hill College, William Carey University and Loyola University in New Orleans will play in the Southern States Athletic Conference. LSUS was denied entry to the SSAC, and with the men's basketball and baseball team's stats, it's easy to speculate that decision was made in part because the Pilots simply win too much.

The new opponents the Pilots and Lady Pilots will face in the 2010-2011 seasons are: Bacone, Huston-Tillotson, Jarvis Christian, Northwood, Langston, Our Lady of the Lake, University of the Southwest, Southwestern Assemblies of God, Texas-Brownsville, Texas College, Texas Wesleyan, Wiley, University of St. Thomas, and Texas-Brownsville.

"We are very excited about the opportunity of competing in the RRAC. It is an honor for us to not only be considered but be accepted to join this conference," said Athletic Director Doug Robinson. "I believe that the prestige of the RRAC will allow us to improve our athletics program to a new level."

The RRAC's most challenging teams for LSUS will be Texas Wesleyan for men's basketball and baseball, Langston for women's basketball, and Texas-Brownsville for men's and women's soccer.

"It's a wonderful opportunity for our soccer program. It's a larger conference and definitely will be highly competitive. We tied Brownsville during pre-season and I'm confident we are more than capable of competing for the title," said LSUSsoccer coach Jed Jones.

"We'll do our best to go in and repeat what we've done in the past and continue making it to the championship tournament."
